CUSTOMS & DOCUMENTS
Belgium is an EU member state. Since Brexit, moving household goods from the UK to Belgium crosses an international customs border. The truck must report directly to our customs agent for processing before delivery.
Transfer of Residence relief allows you to import your used household goods into Belgium without paying import duty or BTW (VAT at 21%), provided you qualify: you must have been resident outside the EU for at least 12 months, the goods must have been used for at least 6 months, and you must register at the town hall (commune/gemeente) in Belgium. Belgium requires official proof of leaving the UK, such as a work contract termination or lease termination.
Clearance time: 2 to 4 working days with correct documentation in place
If documentation is incomplete, Belgian customs will assess import duty and BTW at 21% on your household goods. Belgium requires the truck to report directly to the customs agent - goods cannot go straight to your home.
Belgian communes in different regions (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels) may have slightly different registration procedures. We advise you on the specific requirements for your commune.
