CUSTOMS & DOCUMENTS
Austria is an EU member state. Since Brexit, moving household goods from the UK to Austria crosses an international customs border. Your belongings must be declared through the Austrian Zollamt (customs office).
Austria allows duty-free import of household goods under Transfer of Residence relief, provided you are genuinely relocating your main residence to Austria, have been resident outside the EU for at least 12 months, and the goods have been owned and used for at least 6 months. You must register your residence (Meldezettel) at the local Meldeamt. Austrian customs may require the inventory in German.
Clearance time: 2 to 5 working days with correct documentation in place
If documentation is incomplete, Austrian customs will assess import duty and Umsatzsteuer (VAT) at 20% on your household goods.
Austrian customs offices may require the inventory list to be translated into German. We arrange this as part of our service to avoid delays.
We work with licensed customs agents registered with the Austrian Zollamt. Your goods are professionally cleared at the appropriate Austrian customs office.
